The 2008 season kicks off for us at Clearwater GC in Christchurch for the New Zealand PGA Championship. It's been a long break from tournament golf for Wayne as he makes his 4th visit to Clearwater. For me it's my first visit to New Zealand, so I'm looking to make the most of the opportunity.

The weather hasn't been the best for us so far and as I

write this we are in the midst of a four hour rain delay in the second round. With our second round tee time originally [...]

Australian Open

A lot of controversy has been made about the Oakley entertainment hole at this year's Australian Open. It was built up to be something like the 16th hole at the Phoenix FBR Open where the hole has a stadium type atmosphere which some players believe would be inappropriate for an Australian Open. I think it has been a popular addition to this year's Open, so far the gallery have been well behaved and I think most players have accepted the concept as it creates a bit m [...]

Taiheiyo Club

The view from the clubhouse at the Taiheiyo Club is the best on tour. It overlooks the par5 18th hole which is one of the great finishing holes and has Mt Fuji in the background. It was overcast most of the week but as we finished up on Sunday and while having lunch and waiting for all the action to unfold the skies opened up and we could see a heavily snow caped Mt. Fuji. The 18th hole didn't disappoint, with Brendan Jones holing a 40 foot putt for eagle to win and [...]

Tokyo Motor Show

While Wayne has gone home for the week to celebrate his son Billy's 1st Birthday ( Happy Birthday Billy). I have stayed in Japan for a week of rest. This week I took a trip to the Tokyo Motor Show. It is one of the biggest motor shows in the world with the complex spanning over 200,000m2 and after 6days of the show they had about 490,000 visitors. Even for someone

who is not a big motor sport fan it is pretty amazing, there is no cost spared by the car manufacturers in their displays [...]

After what was an up and down week at the Bridgestone Open, we had a chance to unwind on Sunday night. As we were in Chiba for the Bridgestone Tournament we were able to go to Brendan Jones' caddie Tom Watson's "house warming" party which was in nearby Kashiwa city (not Tom Watson the winner of eight majors but his namesake super caddieand part time swing guru at Windsor Park Golf Club). Tommy showed he's no slouch in the k [...]

The Japan Open has a different feel to any other tournament on the Japan Tour. Keen to get back into the swing of things after a 3 week break, we arrived at the Sagamihara golf course around midday on monday which would be a quiet day at any other tournament in Japan but this week alot of players were already out on the course trying to get a feel for the harder faster greens, narrow

fairways and thick rough. So we got out there on monday afternoon for a few holes j [...]
